Do you think it would be worth adding animate.css as a default feature, as would save having to import the file into each project manually as custom css.

I don’t think we should add it as a default - there are many competing libraries. We did something better with version 2.1 which was just released - we added the ability to easily link to external stylesheets. So for example you can just link to https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/animate.css/3.5.1/animate.min.css and use it in your project.
