Div inside navbar?

Working with the SB Admin theme. The default template has a div inside of the UL list to use as a vertical separator but I can’t seem to move it, or add a new div.

maybe this is by design since it seems somewhat unconventional to place a div inside of the ul list?

I don’t ever use the included themes, but I know they often use unconventional methods to achieve the layouts. You’re probably going to need to tag one of the devs to get an answer on this.
