I'd like to see an option to open images in a my default image editing program just like you can do with opening code in Visual Studio, etc.
Thank you for the suggestion! There are a few technical limitations that prevent us from doing this right now, but it would be possible in the future. I am adding it to our todo.

@martin image editing maybe is over the scope of BSS. But resizing recompressing could be useful. What about just linking/connecting/opening images into https://squoosh.app/
The idea is to open the image in a local image editor, similar to our External Editors feature. In order to use web apps like squoosh we would need to upload and download the image, which might not be easy to do (and might be bad for privacy).
