Is there anyway to add <i> tag without classes or only by using custom code?
It is possible. Search for "Italic" in the component pane. It will add an <em> tag. You can change it to <i> from the "Options" panel on the right. Under "Italic Options", select "I" in the "Tag" dropdown.
