I’m about to start a bootstrap studio class and my students are retired adults.
I’m wondering if there is any advice on how to have my student practise the lab without purchasing a license yet? thanks

Unfortunately, they are retired adults and are using personal email like gmail.com or yahoo.com and so forth.
The link you have given which requires a .edu top level domain and more over, I don’t own an academic school with a .edu domain.

You could try going via the github students developer pack, but I don’t know if that will give the same issues re .edu emails:
