Suggestion for improving blogs

In Blog Options, adding a Long title property could be very useful.
Improved Blog Post Title element:

  • For blog pages, the Long title would be used if defined.
  • For Blog Loop, no change, the Title page property is used.

This makes it easy to improve SEO by grouping the Title and Long title properties in each blog page.
Thanks again for this fabulous component.

@Martin I think this simple improvement is important.

This is an interesting suggestion, but it will end up complicating post creation for everybody, only to address this specific use case. It sounds to me that what you need is actually custom meta data. If others would like to see this added, write in this thread.

For SEO, it is not required for the menu link text and the page’s title to be identical, but they should be closely related and both clearly describe the page’s content. Here are the key points:

  • Consistency: The menu link and should both reflect the main topic or keyword of the page, but do not need to be word-for-word the same.
  • User Experience: If a user clicks a menu link and lands on a page, the should confirm they are in the right place. Too much difference can confuse users.
  • SEO Signals: Both elements help search engines understand the page’s topic. Using related but not identical text can provide more context and avoid keyword stuffing.
  • Best Practice: Use the menu link for concise navigation, and the for a more descriptive or engaging headline. Both should include the main keyword or topic.

In summary: It is recommended to keep the menu link and similar but not necessarily identical. Focus on clarity, relevance, and user experience.

I used to obsess about all the little metrics that went into the search algorithm. According to Google, there are over 200 of them. The vast majority have less than 1% of an affect. The keywords in page titles are a very important ranking factor, but having those same keywords present in the page URLs make very, very little difference in terms of SEO. I’ve experimented with this.

For some people, seeing the keywords in the URL can help orient the person as to where they are on the website, but on mobile you typically cannot see very much of the URL. So even this aspect is of minimal importance (since most people browse the web on phones now.)

Hello and thank you for your reply.

SEO considerations aside, it seems essential to me, for certain layouts, to have concise links leading to blog pages.

My suggestion would allow:

  • Group together, in the blog options of the pages, a text for the link and another for the title, which could be more detailed.
  • Use the Blog Post Title component in both loops and pages.
  • Simplify the layout of blogs using linked components.

Of course, this can be achieved with a h1 tag on pages, instead of using the Blog Post Title component. However, in this case, it becomes impossible to use a linked component for page titles.

I frequently use linked components, especially since the latest update that allows you to unlink certain included elements.

If my suggestion doesn’t interest anyone, that’s okay. Even if it’s less practical, I’ll use a h1 tag in the pages.

Best regards and happy development with BSS.
