Sometimes, when I copy over text from an external source, it picks up styles from the original document like background colors, font-sizes, font colors, etc.
Is there a use case where people want to include rich text formatting when pasting into fields like paragraph, headline, link, or span?
The function of CSS is to specify these styles and it seems like rich text formats overrides CSS.
Yes, I know that shift-ctrl-v will paste without rich text (i.e. plain text).
In my opinion, when pasting into BSS fields, most people will want to paste as plain text because we have CSS to format the text as needed.
I’m wondering whether there’s a large population that want or need rich text formatting. If not, perhaps the default paste action should be to paste as plain text.
problem of making it as default option is it will caught most people off guard.
bss is not the only program on the planet. ctrl+shift+v is general shortcut on most desktop software for paste as plain text.
imagine opening multiple software at the same time with this general shortcut then boom bss…
my sugestion is for dev team to add setting in option to set how default paste shortcut ctrl+v behave, so one can opt in to this different than standard behaviour…
Maybe the devs can leave the keyboard shortcuts in place and just have a menu option somewhere to “paste all text as unformatted.” I suppose an argument can be made that it saves time when you need to paste formatted text from one part of a page to another part, but the vast majority of text I paste comes from external sources (Word docs, the internet, PDFs) and it almost always need to be “stripped” of formatting. As a developer, I always want to start with 100% clean HTML, and then style it as I desire.
To me, this just seems like the proper way to build websites.
Yes understood, I’m not in need of the discussed outcome from either thread as I handle it through external apps. I just transferred your comment into this thread from the other as the discussion continued on here.
As I thought about each discussion, the current Clear Formatting button works with selected text, my thought for the above suggestion would be for clearing the formatting for the entire text of an element. Thats all it would do.
As that seems to be what is being expressed. Again I don’t require it and understood your comment both there and now here, sorry for any confusion.
